The dry polishing system came about in the late 1990s.

A contractor was retained to wet polish the concrete floors of a palace. He assumed that his workers knew the polishing process used water, but they did not. He returned to see that without the use of water in the process it had in turn gave them a beautiful floor. He notified his supplier of the development and they began the research for equipment in the dry polishing process.

The dry polishing process was perfected in the United States when manufacturers drew on natural stone masonry experience and technology to create tools specifically for this newly acquired process. Groups of contractors have pushed the process into the market, and the tools have become more refined as they try and test products.

The first installation of a polished concrete floor (1999) in the US was a 40,000-square-foot warehouse floor for the Bellagio in Las Vegas.

Today, dry polishing enables contractors to create a hard reflective finish that is economical, efficient, and beautiful.
